Spelling Bee

All of Year 7 have been involved in the national Spelling Bee competition organised by Routes into Languages which encourages and promotes language learning. Students had to learn 50 words in Spanish and also spell them in Spanish using their alphabet. Class competitions were held in December to find 2 winners per class to proceed into round 2.

In January the 10 quarter finalists had to learn a further 50 words, all based on topics covered in class, and competed in the next round on Wednesday 6th March. Each student was given one minute on the clock to correctly say the translated word and then spell it. To make things harder, any accented letters had to be identified, as did tildes on the letter N and spaces. Students even had to pass in Spanish!

The 4 semi finalisits are Oliver Dobson, Alex Vidal-Edwards, Joe Bellotti and Vinira Wijesuriya who will now compete in a regional final on April 18th at Hull University. For this round, the boys will need to learn 150 words and spell them correctly! Good luck boys!
