Great performances in Spelling Bee regional finals.

logo_routes_into_languages_enOn Thursday 18th April, Mrs Groak took four Year 7 students to the Regional Final of the Routes into Languages Spelling Bee competition. Joe Bellotti, Richard Holgate, Oliver Dobson and Vinira Wijesuriya had made it through 2 heats to get this far! The boys had been preparing by translating 150 words from English into Spanish, and then learning how to spell them using a Spanish alphabet.

On the day the boys were nervous but excited, and recognised the importance of taking part and not winning – the competition was really tough! Each student had to stand in front of a crowded room for 1 minute against the clock and correctly translate and spell as many words as possible!

Joe, Richard, Oliver and Winira all did brilliantly under such pressure and, although they didn’t make it to the National final, all scored points in their minute! Afterwards, we stayed to watch the dead heats and presentations and the boys were really supportive of all the students who did make it through.

It was an enjoyable experience, designed to make language learning fun and the day was certainly that! Well done boys!
