Old-boy soloist in orchestral concert

Former Beverley Grammar School pupil Richard Leonard, now in his third year as an undergraduate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, will be soloist at the forthcoming concert given by Hull Philharmonic Orchestra. He will be performing the UK première of the newly re-discovered Trombone Concerto by Norwegian composer Ole Olsen. This lyrical and colourful piece was written in 1886 and stayed neglected for over a hundred years until 2010.

Richard said: “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to play as a soloist with the Hull Phil, and I hope to prove that the trombone makes a great concerto instrument. The concerto is lively and pleasant and a real showcase for the trombone’s colourful nature.”
