Dear Parent/Carer

It is a real privilege to be able to write to you as the new Headteacher of Beverley Grammar School. You will be pleased to know that we have had a very positive start to the new academic year, this comes on the back of a strong set of examination results both at GCSE and A level. Indeed, we wish those students every success in the future: many of the A level students are now preparing to go to the University of their choice, whilst we have welcomed back many of our ex Y11 students into our Joint Sixth Form with Beverley High School.

You’ll be pleased to know that I have spoken with all the boys about the high expectations I have of them: that they can expect challenging targets and that we will insist upon high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes to learning across the school. I would ask for your support in this regard.

I will, of course, be working with the Governing Body and the rest of the school community in order to shape the future direction of our traditional, yet forward-thinking, school. The school, as evidenced by our recent Ofsted inspection and external examination results, is already on a sustained journey of success – with the provision of an outstanding education for all of our students as our main goal. The Governing Body will be canvassing the opinions of parents as we develop our future plans and I always welcome the suggestions and thoughts of parents.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank parents for the messages of best wishes and support that I have received since I took up this post. I would also like to thank parents for ensuring that your sons have returned to school properly dressed in school uniform and appropriately equipped: it really helps us set the correct tone across the school on a day to day basis.

I look forward to working with and building positive relationships with you and your sons over the coming months and years.

Yours sincerely

Gavin Chappell
