Opera North brightened our spirits as they came and worked with year 7 on a cold October morning.
Matt Buckingham and Ellie Slorach led the workshops, with accompanist, Jenny Martin, working on vocal technique and repertoire.
Students learned the ‘Toreador Song’ from Bizet’s groundbreaking opera, Carmen, along with a more relaxed song, ‘Love is the Message’.
The Bizet was sung with grit and determination, showing the ideas and emotions of bull-fighting, before delicate and dulcet tones were explored in ‘Love is a Message’.
The latter song was accompanied by sign language, which thankfully the students were better at than I was!
