Duke of Edinburgh back on track

IMAG0012

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has relaunched at Beverley Grammar School after an extended period of absence. Interest in the award has already spiked with over 45 pupils signing up to take part in the award, clearly showing that pupils have missed the unique experience that is the DofE.

Following the launch, pupils undertook a training hike in Millington Woods in the October half term and enjoyed an unusually warm and dry Halloween day stroll. Pupils learnt to navigate using OS maps and how to raise assistance in an emergency situation. Following this success, there will be another training walk in the Christmas holidays (probably not as warm and dry) to prepare pupils for their expeditions.

The award is open to all pupils in Year 9 and above; meetings occur weekly on Wednesday evenings in T2. Any pupils wishing to undertake the DofE Award should see Mr Bibbington or Miss Atkinson for more details.”
