Your Future 2016

On 11th October 2016 a group of Year 11 students visited the “Your Future” careers event, which was held at the KCom stadium.

The boys had opportunity to talk to representatives from a wide range of companies in the field of Manufacturing, Health, Digital and Ports and logistics.

In addition to finding out about the wide range of jobs that are available in these sectors,  they also got involved in a variety of practical, hands-on tasks including;

  • understanding the engineering principles of caravan construction
  • learning how to write code for the BBC Microbit
  • using testing equipment to diagnose patients’ conditions
  • designing a new style of celebration cake
  • looking at 3D virtual environments
  • rebuilding a human brain
  • identifying faults in aircraft construction
  • understand the strains on the human body caused by space travel
  • understanding the software development life cycle
  • preparation of medicine capsules for patients
  • building a blade for a wind turbine
  • route planning for a mountain rescue
