As Science is fundamentally a problem-based discipline, our curriculum at BGS gives our students the confidence to learn how to apply scientific concepts when solving problems. Our ambition as a department is to engage all students, inspire curiosity and to help them identify and understand the science in the world around them.
Through our diverse and challenging curriculum, we aspire to empower learners with a variety of transferable skills that can be applied across a range of disciplines, developing our students’ resilience when doing so. Our curriculum also encourages our students to empathise with the wider world, fully equipping them for life outside of education.
The Science curriculum at BGS is carefully sequenced, allowing students to build on the skills and knowledge they need ahead of studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE and A-Level. Our engaging and challenging learning episodes at KS3 provide solid foundations, allowing students of all abilities to thrive in our subjects.
Our curriculum is deliberately sequenced to ensure students maximise retention. In lessons we use evidence-based teaching and learning methods, designed to ensure the Science curriculum is accessible to all.
