Living History at BGS

Dave Thirlwall of the Living History Project at Murton Park, York has been coming to the school for seven years now giving history talks to the lower school. The emphasis is on showing what the past looked like and how tools and weapons worked in the flesh (well not quite!).

Several boys get to be dressed in costumes and act out certain aspects of the past. In May, Year 7 watched a talk on the English Civil War whilst Year 8 saw a presentation on the trenches of the western front in WW1.

Here you can sees some clips of how Dave brings the past to life in his own inimitable and riveting style.

You can also see how Mrs Sikora took her classes outside to look at what made a good English Civil War general after they had made helmets and weapons for homework. Have at you, you Cavalier swine. Up the Republic!
