The High School Recital Evening on Friday April 1st was, once again, an evening of stunning performances by the school’s most experienced musicians. The audience was impressed by the particularly high standard of instrumental playing and the concert was rounded off by the chamber choir with three Elizabethan Madrigals.

The Grammar School Spring Concert was a lovely evening of varied entertainment from all the school’s music ensembles. Three A level students, Adam Davies, Richard Leonard and Edward Lock, not only took a leading role in many items but conducted the school orchestra in a number of items, having trained them all year.  Mrs. Turner paid personal tribute to all six Year 13 students who will be leaving and to the Schools’ Music Service for their enormous and essential contribution to music at the school.

The High School ‘Gig Night’ took place for the third time on Jun 29th in the High School’s hall. It now a regular feature of the annual programme of events and is an exciting opportunity to hear rock and pop music performed with skill and enthusiasm. Items were performed by the senior and intermediate rock bands, solo singers, keyboard players and the percussion ensemble.

The Grammar School Chamber Concert will take place on Wednesday July 6th from 7.15pm in the school hall. Supper and wine will be served and tickets are now on sale in BGS library – £3.50 for all adults and £1.50 for children. Instrumental students from year 7-13 will entertain parents and friends with a great variety of music. We will also be saying goodbye and good luck to students and staff who are leaving.

The East Riding Youth Orchestra and Schools’ Choir will give their annual summer concert on Saturday 16th July in the City Hall, Hull, starting at 7.30pm. The chamber choirs from both schools will be singing and many students will be playing in the orchestra. Approximately 25% of all East Riding Youth Orchestra members are from the Grammar and High Schools Year 13 student Adam Davies will be the soloist in the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The High School Summer Concert will take place in St Mary’s Church, Beverley at 7.30pm on Tuesday July 19th. The concert is the annual showcase for all the school’s orchestra, bands, ensembles and choirs. Special features this year include a Flute Concerto by Mozart, music form Jurassic Park and songs from the hit musical ‘Les Miserables’. Tickets will be on sale from the beginning of July.

Members of East Riding Senior Wind Band leave at the end of term for their week long tour to Croatia. Students form BGS/BHS will be involved in the performances. This is sure to be an exciting and memorable experience for all involved.
