Beverley Grammar School awarded Outstanding in Ofsted Inspection

The Headteacher and Chair of Governors of Beverley Grammar School are thrilled to announce that the school has been awarded Outstanding in all areas in their recent Ofsted inspection.

The section 5 inspection took place over two days at the end of September and the team of four inspectors looked at all areas of school life, from quality of education and behaviour and attitudes, to leadership and management, which included talking to many students and staff.

BGS prides itself on ensuring that students who leave the school have the confidence, ambition, resilience and empathy required to succeed, and a strong and caring ethos permeates the school, which is reflected in the report. The safeguarding of the students is a high priority, with leaders and staff vigilant and tenacious in their work. Staff are incredibly proud to work at Beverley Grammar School and speak highly of the training, support and leadership they receive.

Sixth Form students are very well prepared for future education and employment and are excellent role models for the younger students, whose behaviour and attendance levels reach the high expectations set for them by the staff.

The report details the exemplary personal development plan which ensures that students are knowledgeable, confident and respectful. All of these programmes are designed to ensure the best personal development and outcomes for the students. The inspectors were particularly impressed with the Civics programme, designed specifically for Year 7 students.

The support for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities is exceptional and staff are highly skilled. Because of this, students with SEND flourish and achieve well.

The Ofsted team say that parent and carer feedback is positive about the quality of education their children receive, with one parent quoted as saying, ‘My son comes home every day buzzing about school.’

Tom Manson, Chair of the BGS Governing Body and the parent of a child at the school, is incredibly proud of the support the school receives from parents, especially given the difficulties faced during the recent pandemic. “BGS, like all schools, have had a turbulent couple of years. The way in which staff, students and parents have responded to these challenges has been inspiring. The feedback parents have provided has given us confidence that they understand the staff at BGS have been doing all they can to keep them updated and their children supported throughout these challenging times’’

Gavin Chappell, Headteacher said “The great thing about our latest report is that it recognises the unique character of our school and is a true reflection of our school community. Staff, students and parents should be rightfully proud of the contribution that they make, on a daily basis, to the culture and ethos of Beverley Grammar School.”
